FT to Publish Populus Pre-Election Polls

March 4 2014

The Financial Times has agreed to publish monthly polling updates conducted by UK research and consulting firm Populus, in the run-up to next year's general election.

FT to Publish Populus Pre-Election PollsFounded in 2003 by former Tory party staff Michael Simmonds, Andrew Cooper and Rick Nye, Populus is best known for its work in polling and political research, and was previously pollster to the Times newspaper. Last year, the firm developed a new political classification system to determine which voters matter to which party, and identify the issues that are most likely to influence individuals in the 2015 general election.

The firm's monthly updates for the FT will be carried in both the print and digital editions, and will be based on Populus' twice-weekly voting intention polls, which capture the views of 2,000 people on every wave. This month, a sample of approximately 16,000 adults has been used to allow the FT to examine opinion about the parties and explore trends in voting intention.

Nye, who serves as Populus's MD of Politics & Reputation, comments: 'The FT is the publication that many of our clients turn to first, and its reputation for insightful and interesting journalism means that together we will be able to produce some market leading analysis of the issues and audiences that matter most in the run up to the next general election.'
