Funds for Audience / Data Firm Civis Analytics

Data-driven audience tech company Civis Analytics has announced a $30.7m Series B round of financing. The firm was founded by Dan Wagner, leader of the team that created President Obama's voter targeting model.

Dan WagnerThe Chicago-based company, founded in 2013, says funds will be used to accelerate product innovation and continue growing its team - and has already announced seven key executive appointments. Participants in the funding round included new investor Alumni Ventires as well as existing backers Drive Capital, Verizon Ventures, former Alphabet Executive Chairman & CEO Eric Schmidt, and Silicon Valley Bank. The company said 2020 was its best year ever, with more than 60% revenue growth; and that the first half of 2021 also broke its revenue record.

The new senior hires are:

  • Marta DeBellis, CMO of HireVue, who joins the Civis Board of Directors
  • Clare Epstein as Vice President of Public Sector
  • Maeve Ward as VP of Research
  • Richard Watson as VP of Media
  • Aaron Williams, VP of Marketing
  • Laura Belmont, General Counsel, and
  • Patrice Brown, Chief of Staff.
According to Wagner, 'Civis delivers cloud-based solutions to help organizations use data to inform their most important decisions and audience campaigns. Over the past year, we've partnered with CMOs and their analytics teams to create more effective messages based on science, find new customers for breakout streaming platforms, and map the effects of their advertising across channels using leading-edge data science for their exact needs'.
