Nielsen Partners with Online Exchange

August 4 2004

ACNielsen has formed an alliance with Internet-based b2b hub The WorldWide Retail Exchange (WWRE), aimed at improving the quality of data available to manufacturers and retailers.

The two companies will partner for the launch of the WWRE Data Quality Program, which is an enhancement to its WorldWide Item Management (WIM) service, part of the WorldSYNC(tm) solution. Recent additions to the latter include GDS assessment and trading partner data needs assessment, which 'enable customers to prepare themselves for data synch and be armed with the data requirements of their trading partners'. ACNielsen will provide data quality and industry standards expertise to complement these.

Nielsen's existing Global Passport services help consumer product manufacturers and retailers use their product information more efficiently both internally and in dealings with their trading partners and vendors, both cleaning internal product data and aligning it with industry-standard product codes to enable more efficient exchange of information across the supply chain.

According to Pete Plotas, Director of Strategic Alliances at the WWRE, its members 'realize that clean and dependable data is critical to their data sync initiatives'. David Timberlake, VP of ACNielsen Global Services, says partnering with the WWRE is a natural fit for ACNielsen: 'We both have global reach, ensuring that manufacturers and retailers can implement global standards to speak the same industry language across both countries and regions'.

The WWRE(r) currently consists of members from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America with combined sales of approximately U.S. $900 billion. Its web site is at www.wwre.org or www.worldwideretailexchange.org
