Audio Intelligence Firm AssemblyAI Raises More Funds

July 19 2022

In the US, audio intelligence specialist AssemblyAI has raised $30m in a Series B funding round, which it will use to continue to research and train AI models for tasks such as speech recognition and language identification.

Dylan FoxThe San Francisco-based firm offers speech-to-text APIs that are used to convert online audio and video data - from Zoom meetings, podcasts, audio-first social media platforms, enterprise conversation intelligence platforms, live streaming etc - into text. Beyond transcription, the APIs are used to moderate user-generated audio content at scale, deliver insights to customer support and contact center agents, and serve more targeted ad campaigns into audio content.

New funding comes from global software investor Insight Partners, and adds to AssembyAI's $28m Series A round four months ago, bringing the total raised to date to $65m. AssemblyAI says it will use the funds to 'aggressively scale up its efforts', accelerating its product roadmap, building better AI infrastructure, and growing its AI Research team.

Founder and CEO Dylan Fox (pictured) comments: 'So much of our growth has been product led, and a big focus for us is to launch new models/products at an even faster pace. Through our work, we also hope to be able to, more broadly, push forward the state-of-the-art in AI - as well as expose AI to more and more developers through our Developer Education team, which has published great introductions to diffusion models, differentiable programming, and PyTorch'.
