Data Intel Firm Galileo Announces Funding and Launch

November 2 2022

In the US, data intelligence company Galileo has raised $18m in a Series A round of funding, which it will use to continue to grow its engineering and go-to-market teams, and to expand its platform to support new data modalities. The firm has also launched a free version of its platform.

Vikram ChatterjiSan Francisco-based Galileo creates data intelligence tools for unstructured data machine learning (ML) practitioners. The firm says that more than 80% of the worlds data is unstructured (text, image, speech etc.), and before it launched six months ago, there was no available tool for debugging and fixing unstructured data during the ML workflow. According to the company, this meant that data scientists spent the majority of their time data-debugging in Excel sheets and Python scripts, whereas Galileo instantly uncovers the erroneous/bad unstructured data with actions and integrations to fix them, all within one platform.

With the new Galileo Community Edition, anyone can sign up for free, add a few lines of code while training their model with labeled data or during an inference run with unlabeled data to instantly inspect, find and fix data errors. Vikram Chatterji (pictured), co-founder and CEO of Galileo, comments: 'We started Galileo to build ML unstructured data tooling. Today we are making Galileo available for free through the Galileo Community Edition for any data scientist to sign up and get the superpowers to fix their ML data instantly.'

The firm's new funding has been led by Battery, with participation from previous investor The Factory and new investors Walden Catalyst and FPV Ventures and former Morgan Stanley COO and former Google Ventures General Partner.
