BBC Web Traffic Contract

November 12 2004

The BBC has appointed Nielsen//NetRatings, in partnership with SageMetrics, to provide traffic analysis for its bbc.co.uk web site. The three-year contract was offered as an open tender process through EU procurement regulations and almost 40 companies initially expressed an interest.

Simon Nelson, Controller Interactive Radio and Music, who oversaw the tendering process on behalf of the BBC, says the better understanding of the site audience is part of the BBC's commitment to Building Public Value. 'We were looking for a comprehensive service that allowed all of our sites to be measured to the same level. Nielsen//NetRatings with SageMetrics met the criteria against stiff competition. This agreement provides the BBC with the vital tools required to really understand why users come to bbc.co.uk, where they go within our site and what they look for from us. We believe it will help us to improve our relationship with our visitors and be more efficient in how and what services we provide'.

Traffic analysis will commence in the New Year. Nielsen//NetRatings is on the Web at www.nielsen-netratings.com and SageMetrics Corporation at www.sagemetrics.com
