Green Street Buys Retail and Leisure Data Firm LDC

November 7 2023

US and European commercial real estate intelligence firm Green Street has acquired London-based Local Data Company (LDC), which provides proprietary data and insights on the British retail and leisure market. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Barnaby OswaldDuring the last decade, LDC has been compiling insight on every brick-and-mortar retail and leisure business across GB's high streets, retail parks and shopping centres. The firm claims to be the only company to physically monitor every consumer-facing GB business, through its team of field researchers who audit the occupancy status at frequent intervals with an in-office research team.

This data collection methodology underpins an online insights platform covering 700,000 businesses, and helping industry participants track openings/closings, demographic and market shifts, brand competitor footprints, portfolio health and other trends. Following the deal, Barnaby Oswald (pictured), who co-founded LDC in 2003, will continue to play a leadership role for the LDC business within Green Street.

Jeffry Stuek, Green Street's CEO, comments: 'This acquisition enables us to provide more granular intelligence on one of the core sectors we cover to deliver deeper insights into the current and future state of the UK retail market. LDC's focus on proprietary data, collection techniques, and rigorous quality control, aligns well with Green Street's differentiators and product mix'.
