Retail Media Firm Zitcha Hires Head of Data and AI

May 20 2025

Retail media tech specialist Zitcha has appointed Alberto Vergara as Head of Data and AI, charged with leading the firm's 'evolution' into a platform focused on understanding customer needs and matching audiences with brands.

Alberto VergaraHeadquartered in Melbourne, Australia and with offices in the UK and US, the firm describes itself as 'the world's first purpose-built, unified omnichannel retail media platform', allowing clients to streamline the retail media lifecycle, receive actionable insights, and integrate them seamlessly with their trading strategy. Vergara joins from decision support AI and data science firm Quantium, where he was engineering lead for the last three years, and earlier held technical and engineering lead roles at on-demand supermarket business Voly and digital gifting business Prezzee.

Quoted on www.mumbrella.com.au , Zitcha CEO Troy Townsend says Vergara will be key to helping the company position itself at the forefront of a revolution in retail media: 'Whilst current platforms focus on displaying ads to consumers, we're rapidly moving toward a world where AI agents are the primary shoppers, making purchasing decisions based on consumer preferences and goals. This shift requires retail media networks to evolve beyond traditional impression-based models to first-party data-driven, goal-oriented infrastructures.'

Vergara himself comments: 'What excites me most about joining Zitcha is the opportunity to transform how retail media operates at its core. The future of retail isn't just about better ads, it's about creating intelligent systems that understand consumer needs and facilitate better matches between products and people.'
