Cartmell Rejoins IFF to Lead New Transport Sector

July 8 2026

London-based, independent social research agency IFF Research has launched a new Transport sector, adding to its ten existing areas of focus. Former employee Becky Cartmell rejoins to lead the new practice, which will help public bodies, operators and policy teams tackle transport challenges.

Becky CartmellIFF was established in 1965 as a pioneer in full service industrial market research, and has broadened its offer to provide insight to the private, public and voluntary sectors. Existing key sectors are Business & Enterprise; Crime & Justice; Energy & Environment; Financial Services; Health & Wellbeing; Higher Education; Housing; Learning & Skills; Regulation; and Work & Welfare.

The new sector will tap decades of expertise in the area to help clients understand how people use different systems, what shapes mode choice, how passengers experience reliability and performance, and what is needed to make transport more inclusive across different places and communities. Drawing on its expertise in other sectors, it will also explore how transport connects with wider social, economic and environmental outcomes.

Cartmell (pictured) rejoins as a Research Director, having previously worked at IFF between 2017 and 2022 - in the interim she served at the Department for Transport, in roles including Principal Social Researcher for Bus, Light Rail and Taxis.

IFF Chief Executive Jan Shury comments: 'Transport shapes how people access work, education, services and opportunity. As policy changes and evidence needs have grown, we're bringing our diverse sector expertise together to help organisations build a richer picture of how transport systems work for different people, places and communities.'
