Partners Combine AI and Human Response to Optimize Ads

August 14 2026

In California, multimodal AI firm Luma and emotion analytics specialist Dumbstruck have announced a partnership promising brands and agencies a 'new category in advertising', Creative Intelligence. Their solution will combine AI and human response to content to provide insights that continuously improve and optimize.

Jeff TetraultDumbstruck uses AI-powered facial coding / analysis to measure how consumers respond emotionally and behaviorally to video ads, before a campaign is launched. Its new partner, VC-backed Luma, builds 'Unified Intelligence' AI systems that combine reasoning and generation within a single model architecture. 'Luma Agents' are AI collaborators capable of planning and executing end-to-end creative work across text, image, video, and audio.

The firms say that in a new world where AI makes production virtually limitless, it's increasingly important to know which content will earn attention, drive emotion, and perform, before it enters the market. In their joint solution for this, Dumbstruck measures how audiences respond to advertising, and turns those responses into clear intelligence about what's working and what isn't; Luma then gives creative teams the means to make fast, 'production-grade' changes to existing video without the need for a complete reshoot. Finally, Dumbstruck validates the results before media dollars are spent. The partners say the solution can equally be used to personalize content for specific audience segments.

Jeff Tetrault (pictured), CEO of Dumbstruck, comments: 'AI is changing the economics of advertising creative. For most of the industry's history, creative content was expensive and slow. The hardest question was how much a brand could afford to produce. That constraint is gone. Today, the challenge isn't creating more. It's deciding what deserves to exist. That's the discipline of Creative Intelligence.'
