ESOMAR Keynotes Hit the High Notes

July 26 2005

The ESOMAR Congress, to be held in Cannes on 18 to 21 September, will include a keynote presentation with a difference as Slovenian violinist Miha Pogacnik sets out to stimulate business creativity via his music.

Full details of the keynote speakers are as follows.

  • Miha Pogacnik, entrepeneur, cultural ambassador and violinist from Slovenia Pogacnik uses his music to communicate new ways of thinking in a way that is said to have prompted radical change in organisations. His work aims to 'demonstrate the underlying principles of renewal and change, transforming core thinking and removing barriers which traditionally limit a company's creativity and vision'.
  • Bernard Brochand, Mayor of Cannes As well as welcoming delegates to his city, Brochand will share insights gained during his time as Marketing Director at P&G and as President of Havas Advertising and DDB International in France.
  • Gilles Lipovetsky, University of Grenoble, France The controversial social philosopher will discuss the evolution of society, which he believes has become hyper-individualistic and based on emotional consumption. According to Lipovetsky: 'Hyper-consumers are increasingly the ones who buy speed and memory, who dream of mastering time by speeding it up and stopping it at the same time'.
This year also sees the introduction of the John Downham Award, a new biennial award designed to recognise outstanding achievements in market, opinion and social research and to stimulate excellence in research. The winner of the 10,000 Euro prize will be announced at the ESOMAR networking evening on 20 September. There will also be prizes for the best paper s given at the event (the Best Paper Overall, Best Case History, and Best Methodological Paper awards).
