GfK Funds Chair in Marketing Intelligence

August 17 2005

The GfK Association is to donate 190,000 Euros a year to fund a professorship in Marketing Intelligence at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. It will also fund a scientific position and several scholarships for an initial period of five years.

The GfK-funded chair will be based in the faculty of economics and social sciences, where GfK's founder Professor Dr Wilhelm Vershofen taught as a political economist. The professorship will focus on consumer goods marketing, in particular market research methods, the implementation of market information in marketing decision-making, consumer behaviour and customer satisfaction. The professorship and an assistant's position will be advertised in the next few weeks.

The university intends to use the new position to develop its marketing profile. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Karl-Dieter Grüske says that, with GfK's support, the institution can now broaden its academic offering and strengthen the focus on research. Professor Dr Klaus L. Wübbenhorst, CEO of GfK, says the new chair will 'increase the appeal of the University and make it easier for us to find highly qualified and motivated employees.'

The company is online at www.gfk.com .
