Security Man goes Client Side

November 21 2006

Network security company Fortinet has hired media columnist and former Gartner analyst Richard Stiennon as its Chief Marketing Officer.

Stiennon joins from technology researcher IT-Harvest, Inc., which he founded, latterly holding the role of Chief Research Analyst. He worked previously as VP of threat research for anti-spyware firm Webroot Software, and prior to that VP of Research in the Security and Privacy group at Gartner, Inc.

Stiennon won Gartner's Thought Leadership award in 2003 and was a regular columnist for DarkReading, CIOupdate and NetworkWorld Magazine. A prolific blogger, he holds a bachelor of science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Described by the firm's PR as 'not shy about sharing his frank opinions', Stiennon says his new employer is the one player in its market that's got its approach to firewalls right. 'I've watched security vendor after security vendor fail to innovate and execute as the market, and their customers, required... This is my chance to be part of a team that is already executing on my long-held vision.'

The firm is online at www.fortinet.com .
