IMS Progress on Patient Data and Health Outcomes

December 1 2006

Pharma research giant IMS Health has announced it has successfully integrated anonymised patient-level data (APLD) across its global portfolio of information, analytics and consulting; and established a new global team of health economics and outcomes experts.

With a focus on protecting individual patient privacy, IMS uses 'de-identified' healthcare data to deliver disease and treatment insights. These insights help medical researchers, government agencies, and healthcare and pharmaceutical companies identify unmet treatment needs and understand the effectiveness and value of pharmaceutical products in improving health.

IMS's APLD portfolio shows the interplay of factors such as disease and treatment patterns, physician practices and the cost of care over time. Integrating these insights across an array of industry-standard information allows clients to gain a complete, globally consistent view of the market.

'IMS is uniquely qualified to help the industry apply APLD to drive innovative pharmaceutical brand and portfolio strategies, and ensure that the right patients receive the right therapies at the right time.' said William Nelligan, President, IMS Americas.

To strengthen the IMS Health offering, the firm has recently expanded its capabilities by assembling a global team of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) specialists, alongside robust and consistent methodologies.

Gilles Pajot, Executive Vice President, IMS explained: 'We have been working aggressively to build on our extensive capabilities to support the industry's growing need for real world evidence of the clinical and economic value, and anticipated consequences, of therapies and treatment options in advancing health. Only IMS is able to address these challenges, with a multidisciplinary team of HEOR specialists who are able to apply their knowledge of local markets within a global context.'
