Cathy Marlow Case: Man Charged with Murder

January 29 2007

London police have charged a man with the murder of Research Now Finance Manager Cathy Marlow. Matthew Fagan, a 31-year-old unemployed US citizen living in south London, appeared in Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court today.

New Zealander Cathy Marlow was found dead in the panel firm's office in south London on Saturday 13th January. A post-mortem revealed she had been asphyxiated.

The prosecution told the court the accused had previously worked in the same building as the murdered woman and that its case includes DNA evidence found under Ms Marlow's fingernails. Fagan has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey, London's Central Criminal Court, on May 7.

Fagan is the fourth man to be taken in for questioning in connection with the case, and was arrested at the weekend on suspicion of murder. The colleague who called the police after discovering her body was arrested and released three days later; a 38-year-old man pleaded guilty to the theft of her credit card ten days ago and was remanded for sentencing; and a 26-year-old man was arrested the same day (Jan 19th) but was released on bail, pending further enquiries.
