GfK Broadens International TV Research

GfK has acquired and retained several TV research contracts around the globe, increased the size of a number of its TV panels, and developed and installed new metering technology.
- GfK Romania has won a four-year contract with the Romanian Association for Audience Measurement (ARMA) to measure the country's TV ratings from January 2008. GfK will install its TC VIII TV meter in 1,200 households.
- The Dutch association for television audience research, SKO, has extended its TV research contract with Intomart GfK for a further three years. Around 1,250 households will be equipped with its upgraded meter which includes Enhanced Audio Matching (EAM).
- GfK Ukraine's TV research contract will run from 2008 until 2012, and a new panel will be established to measure ratings in more than 2,500 households.
- GfK Audience Research Bulgaria has been measuring ratings there since the end of 2006, and its TC VIII meters are used in the 750 panel households.
GfK also measures TV ratings in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, and Switzerland.
In addition, GfK has equipped viewer panels in India, Pakistan and Cyprus with the new electronic TV audience-measuring technology, developed by Swiss-based GfK firm, Telecontrol.
At the start of 2007, Indian television research firm, aMap, increased its household panel by 1,000 to cover 7,000 households, all equipped with the TC VIII Standard.
From the middle of the year, Pakistani media research company, Medialogic, launches Pakistan's first TV measurement programme, using the TC VIII system in 500 households.
Cypriot agency, Watch Media, has been measuring TV and radio viewing since mid-2006, using Telecontrol's multimedia metering instrument, MediaWatch III, which is a wristwatch with a built-in microphone. The firm runs a panel comprising 300 participants who wear the MediaWatch for two weeks at a time.
