IMS Buy Boosts Health Outcomes Offer

IMS Health has acquired ValueMedics Research LLC, significantly extending its Healthcare Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) expertise in the US as well as its global capabilities.

Research and consulting firm ValueMedics is based in Falls Church, Virginia, USA. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The pharma research giant announced last December (www.mrweb.com/drno/news6199.htm ) that it had established a new global team of health economics and outcomes experts, to support 'the industry's growing need for real-world evidence of the clinical and economic value of therapies and treatment options in advancing health'. ValueMedics has built up a reputation for work in patient compliance and the economic valuations of medical technologies and the buy will add strategic expertise in areas including health policy, outcomes research, health economics and market access strategies to IMS's global information assets and analytics, including its anonymized, longitudinal patient-level and disease-specific data, and its global sales and prescription insights.

IMS COO Gilles Pajot comments: 'Today, healthcare stakeholders – including governments, payers, providers and patients – require deeper insights into the value of medicines. The acquisition of ValueMedics further strengthens our ability to demonstrate the efficacy, effectiveness and efficiency of drugs and their potential impact in real-world clinical practice.'

ValueMedics Principal Jonothan Tierce, who will lead IMS's HEOR practice in the Americas, says his firm's new parent 'shares our commitment to clients and recognizes that their goals are best achieved when efforts in health outcomes, economics and market access are integrated and focused'.
