IRI to Track Convenience Store Sector

July 23 2007

In the US, Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has launched its 'AllScan Convenience Store Tracking' service, to provide scanner-based point-of-sale data across the convenience store market.

The system will take data from a sample of more than 11,000 stores to build up a national, regional and local picture of the market, which the firm says accounts for $148 billion in retail sales.

President and CEO Scott Klein said the new service offers weekly analysis into all product categories, and explained: 'These unmatched business insights will help manufacturers and retailers improve category management effectiveness and retail execution across the entire convenience channel.'

Klein explained that the new system has been developed in response to the convenience channel's need for brand and category management data, such as that which exists on grocery, drug and mass outlets.

He added: 'The service puts weekly data in client's hands for 54 syndicated markets across the country—that's more than any other service. With this type of granular information, manufacturers can collaborate with retailers for shelf space and ensure that convenience stores are carrying the right items for their consumers.'

Chicago-headquartered IRI provides consumer, shopper and retail marketing intelligence and combines this information with automated and predictive analytics. The firm is based at 12 sites throughout the US and is online at www.infores.com.
