IMS Health Buy Adds to Analytics Capability

December 5 2007

Pharmaceutical and healthcare research giant IMS Health has acquired analytics and technology firm MIHS Holdings, Inc, which has two subsidiaries - IHS and MedInitiatives.

The addition of Milwaukee-based IHS will enable IMS to offer its pharmaceutical company clients complementary expertise in areas including drug rebate data validation and adjudication of Managed Care, and Medicare Part D contracts.

In the healthcare payer market, IMS already assesses physician dynamics and drug therapies, but with the addition of analytics firm MedInitiatives, based in Sacramento, California, the firm says clients including pharmacy benefit managers will get additional insights and innovative technology to better manage prescription drug costs.

Bill Nelligan, President, IMS Americas comments: 'This represents a significant growth opportunity for us, as drug manufacturers seek greater efficiencies from their non-core operations and payers look for new ways to manage escalating costs and drive evidence-based healthcare decisions.'
