Ipsos Buys Brazilian Research Firm

Ipsos has acquired 100% of Alfacom, a Brazilian firm specialising in research and customer relationship management in the Latin America automotive sector. Terms were undisclosed.

Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Sao Paulo, Alfacom offers syndicated and vehicle quality evaluation research as well as brand image studies. The firm has a CATI network and also collects data via direct mailing, face-to-face, e-mail/Internet, focus groups and individual in-depth interviews.

In 2007, Alfacom, which employs 220 staff, achieved a turnover close to 19 million Brazilian reals (Euros 7.98m). Post acquisition, the company will be integrated into Ipsos Loyalty at both a regional and worldwide level.

Rodrigo Toni, Ipsos Country Manager, adds: 'The Alfacom business complements Ipsos Brazil's portfolio. Our plan is to keep it operating as it always has, but immediately start sharing knowledge and tools that will benefit the current clients of both Alfacom and Ipsos.'

In June, Ipsos increased its presence in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets through the acquisition of Buenos Aires-headquartered Livra Panels, which provides online panels and data collection services.
