GfK and MIA to Keep Score on Instrument Sales

October 10 2008

In the UK, GfK has partnered with the Music Industries Association (MIA) to produce annual market trends digest reports for MIA members, outlining current trends in musical instrument sales.

GfK says that this information will allow the MIA to track consumer demand at the point-of-sale for instruments, and monitor areas such as price deflation.

Matt Gibbs, Account Director for Musical Instruments at GfK commented: 'We are looking forward to working closely with the music industry to continue developing our measurement of instrument sales, and to bring our business information services to a wider audience in this sector.'

Data recorded by GfK so far reveals that although the music sector saw some slow-down in May, in June and July categories including guitars, digital pianos and keyboards had relatively strong sales compared with 2007.
