Nielsen J.V. to Provide Internet Measurement in China

October 10 2008

Nielsen Online has formed a joint venture with web site ranking agency Beijing Zhongqian Wangrun to develop and deliver Internet measurement and analysis services in China.

The Chinese agency and the Internet Society of China (ISC) already run a large-scale web site ranking platform called ChinaRank which evaluates pan-Chinese sites.

Through the new CR-Nielsen venture, the top 15 web sites in China will be analyzed, and the partners have already found that each attracted more than 28 million unique browsers between September 8 and September 14 this year.

'Nielsen has set the standard for quality, reliability and innovation in Internet measurement and analysis,' states CR-Nielsen President Ms Ge Zhao. 'We look forward to working together to help clients understand the evolving digital landscape in China - from usage metrics to demographics; from search activity to advertising intelligence.'

The state-owned China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) estimates that there are 253 million Internet users in China (June 2008). Nielsen Online's Executive Chairman Itzhak Fisher says that this represents a significant opportunity for his firm's clients.

Nielsen Online was formed a year ago when Nielsen combined its Nielsen//NetRatings division with BuzzMetrics.
