Judge Scraps TRA/Kantar Patent Claim Decision

In the US, the judge who threw out TRA's patent infringement lawsuit against Kantar has now ordered that decision to be withdrawn from the record.

TiVo-owned TRA originally claimed that Kantar had infringed its patents while reviewing them as part of merger talks from which it later withdrew, subsequently launching a competing product called RapidView.

Last week, TRA appealed to Judge Shira Scheindlin to reconsider her previous decision to throw out its claim, saying it had not been given a 'full opportunity to be heard' and suggesting that the judge may have 'simply overlooked' a previous agreement that she would hold an oral hearing before coming to a decision. Scheindlin has now retracted her order from the case file, without at this point providing any explanation for doing so.
