MediaShift Gets Third Ad Targeting Patent

December 24 2013

Online ad technology firm MediaShift has been awarded a third patent, which the firm says extends its in-session ad targeting capabilities to deliver relevant ads to WiFi users on the move.

David GrantMediaShift works with airports and hotels to provide consumers with free WiFi Internet access in exchange for receiving online ads delivered via its platform. Once connected to the WiFi, consumers are targeted with ads while they surf, specifically relating to the airport where they are waiting and their in-airport location. In addition, the firm is able to categorize consumers from, for instance, the type of hotel where they are staying or the destination to which they are flying.

Earlier this year, the firm acquired travel ad network Travora Media, which it has snce been integrating with the ad networks of its sister firm AdVantage Media, in order to enhance the data profiles of visitors to travel sites, and to enable advertisers to target potential buyers.

MediaShift CEO David Grant (pictured) comments: 'By leveraging rapidly growing WiFi network infrastructures, MediaShift is tapping into a new wave of distribution by plugging into traffic rather than buying it, and our intellectual property creates barriers which we believe will prevent our competition from riding this same wave. These patents have fueled the development of new products which will be available to the market in the coming months.'
