Nielsen Promotes for Top Diversity Role

Nielsen has promoted Dr. D. Sangeeta to the role of Chief Diversity Officer, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Mitch Barns and effective immediately.

Dr SangeetaThe new position charges her with 'ensuring that Nielsen remains an employer and business partner of choice and enables innovation by leveraging diversity as a competitive advantage'. In addition to leading Nielsen's Diversity Council and employee resource groups, she will focus on defining the company's strategic diversity and inclusion objectives, and improve diversity at all levels of the business including the leadership team.

Sangeeta also retains the role of leader of the Global Measurement Science organization, overseeing methodological innovation and data integrity, which she has held since 2012 and in which she reports to COO Brian West.

She joined the firm in 2008 and her senior roles since then have included Client Service Executive for Global Business Services, North America Buy; Chief Business Process Improvement Officer; and executive sponsor of the Asian American Advisory Council. Prior to Nielsen, Sangeeta spent fourteen years at General Electric in various operational leadership roles, receiving 26 patents for her research. She also spent four years at Battelle. She holds a Master's Degree in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and a Ph.D. in Materials Chemistry from the University of Illinois.

According to Barns, diversity and inclusion are key to the company's success. He comments: 'Our ability to provide clients with insights around consumer behavior worldwide is predicated on a diverse workforce that reflects the more than 100 markets in which we serve... As a leader in our organization, Sangeeta has been essential in cultivating this culture of inclusion, and I am thrilled she will be leading our diversity efforts globally.'

Sangeeta herself comments: 'I am passionate about diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and I believe they are the vehicle to help both our associates and clients realize their full potential as we continue to expand into new markets.'
