Former Nielsen Employee Sues for Text Harassment

February 11 2015

Former Nielsen employee Thomas Sook is suing the company for sending him 'at least 2,500' text messages since he left the company four years ago.

Telephone supportFormer employee suing Nielsen...Sook served as Senior Software Development Engineer at Nielsen between June 2009 and April 2011. According to a complaint filed in the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida in Tampa, while at Nielsen Sook had agreed to receive text notifications about technical issues regarding the retrieval of consumer data. When he left the company, the texts were initially stopped, but then continued after a few months. In the filing, Sook says he contacted Nielsen from 2012 until last August to ask the company to stop texting him, but claims that despite this, he is still receiving as many as four texts per day.

He is now seeking damages of $500 to $1,500 per call for 'negligent and willful' violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, along with an injunction to ensure Nielsen no longer texts him.
