Viralheat Buy Boosts Cision Social Media Offer

March 23 2015

Software company Cision has acquired San Mateo, CA-based social media analytics specialist and content marketing platform Viralheat, for an undisclosed sum.

Cision says Viralheat will power its social suite of services, providing a comprehensive social media engagement and content marketing service with rich analytics. The buy is the latest in a string of acquisitions which also includes social media listening company Visible Technologies and UK-based media intelligence and insights firm Gorkana Group. Cision, which was formerly known as Romeike, was merged with fellow PR software provider Vocus around a year ago.

Viralheat, which recently opened an office in London, provides trend and sentiment analysis of online conversations, identifies influencers and measures performance against competitors. Meanwhile Cision says Visible's technology 'will remain a core component of its offerings and will continue to be leveraged as a social insights tool for market research, brand monitoring and analysis.'
