BARC Debuts Mobile App for Viewership Data Access

February 19 2016

In India, TV rating body BARC has launched a mobile app, which will provide access to channel/programme viewership data by genres.

BARC Debuts Mobile App for Viewership Data AccessBARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) was launched last May, to oversee and control TV audience measurement in India, after some broadcasters complained of inaccuracies and anomalies in data provided by Nielsen and Kantar Media joint venture TAM Media. Last week, BARC and TAM Media formed a meter management company, which will begin operating in the next couple of weeks as the latter firm exits the ratings business.

The new BARC India Mobile App, which has been developed by WPP-owned firm Grey Global Group, can be downloaded on both the Android Play Store and IOS App Store. Using the tool, subscribers can access a graphical representation of half hourly programme impressions across all languages for each of the last seven days. They can also tap into data on the top ten/twenty channels, and top five programmes.

CEO Partho Dasgupta comments: 'Our intent was to make the whole process of consuming TV viewership data easy and on the go. With the launch of BARC India Mobile App, we have moved a step closer towards that. I am sure that this easy to navigate BARC India app will give both our subscribers and non-subscribers great user experience.'
