YouGov Continues Double Digit Growth

March 21 2016

UK-based online research agency YouGov plc has announced interim results for the six months ended 31st January 2016, showing revenue of £41.5m, up 13% at constant currencies, and adjusted profit before tax up by 42% to £5.0m.

Stephan ShakespeareThe results are a further improvement on the healthy 10% organic growth reported this time last year. In the latest report, adjusted earnings per share rose 33% to 3.4p, while net cash balances improved from £3.7m a year previously to an impressive £10.1m.

Once again the firm's Data Products and Services grew faster than the company as a whole - revenue was up by 32% to £15.8m and they now represent 38% of the total revenue (2015: 33%) and 59% of Group adjusted operating profit. Revenue for BrandIndex was up 45% to £6.8m; for Omnibus up 28% to £7.4m; and for Custom Research up 6% to £25.7m.

Core markets, the US and UK, performed strongly, as did the Middle East business and newer ventures in Asia Pacific and France. The USA - now the Group's largest region in revenue terms - achieved 14% growth (8% in constant currency terms) and 6% growth in adjusted operating profit. The UK was stronger still with revenue up 17% and operating profit up 78%. Nordic and German revenues were not as strong, the latter falling by 10% in reported terms, with conditions particularly challenging for custom research - and these two units have now been brought under a single Northern European CEO with effect from this month, with a remit to focus on expanding the more profitable 'core' YouGov services.

CEO Stephan Shakespeare (pictured) says the results show 'the successful implementation of our strategy'. He adds: 'We are well positioned for the future and see significant opportunities for further growth of our existing syndicated data products and data services, including high potential for the YouGov Cube and YouGov Profiles'. The Cube is YouGov's highly structured and codified profile data library, which the firm says is 'becoming the central feature of the YouGov client value proposition'.

YouGov, which has grown staff numbers from 627 in January 2015 to around 654 a year later, has 28 offices in 21 countries, and panels in 37 countries. Web site: www.yougov.com .
