Nielsen Book Opens ISBN Store

July 26 2016

In the UK and Ireland, publishing data analyst Nielsen Book is launching an online site called the 'ISBN Store', where publishers and self-published authors can purchase ISBNs (International Standard Book Numbers) and related services.

Jonathan StolperThe ISBN provides a unique number that identifies each edition of a book among the millions of titles published worldwide. Unique ISBNs aid in discovery; and can also contribute to the marketing process by highlighting specific qualities in a publication, for example differentiating between product form details (eg, whether a book is in PDF or EPUB formats), or between the accessibility options available for those with reading or print impairment.

Through this new store launch, combined with its BookData and Book2Look services, Nielsen Book says it can add rich content to book records to increase a book's discoverabiity. Jonathan Stolper (pictured), VP and Global MD of Nielsen Book, comments: 'This launch is one of our significant achievements this year and we expect it to make the ISBN even more relevant and accessible to the publishing sector. Our research proves that rich content increases discoverability and sales, and this is truly a one-stop-shop for publishers and self- published authors'.
