ITV to Use EagleAi to 'Understand' Presidential Election

November 8 2016

UK broadcaster ITV will be the first to use media network Havas' custom artificial intelligence system EagleAi, to provide its audience with insights into US voters' intentions prior to the presidential election result being called.

Analysing it is one thing, 'understanding' it may be beyond any intelligence, human or AIAccording to Havas, EagleAi is the first AI solution to be developed for TV news. Based on IBM's Watson technology, the tool will be used to examine the data gathered from millions of social media posts, photos, videos, comments, searches and press coverage generated since Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump were named as their party nominees back in July. Using this data, EagleAi will attempt to understand the language, sentiment, tone, and confidence levels being expressed around the presidential race.

Havas London's Executive Digital Director Lisa De Bonis explained: 'EagleAi works a lot like a human brain actually, but on a scale that our brains are not currently able to do. It can spot connections and patterns just like us, just on a truly massive scale', De Bonis will be one of the guests on ITV's election-night special, to help viewers interpret EagleAi findings.
