Cisco Buys App Intell Firm AppDynamics for $3.7bn

In the US, connectivity giant Cisco has acquired app intelligence company AppDynamics for about $3.7 billion, in a mixture of cash and equity.

David WadhwanBased in San Francisco, AppDynamics has developed the Application Intelligence Platform, which tracks and analyses user interactions with apps, and delivers a real-time, end-to-end view of their performance. The firm's last round of funding totalled $158m and closed in November 2015, when the company was valued at $1.9 billion.

As part of the deal, AppDynamics will continue to be led by CEO David Wadhwani (pictured), and will become part of Cisco's Internet of Things and Applications Unit, reporting to the division's SVP and GM Rowan Trollope. In a blog post, Cisco said: 'Together with Cisco's industry leading digital network architecture, customers will now have unprecedented end to end insight across their technology stack, from infrastructure to application. With this insight, companies will be equipped to improve customer experiences and accelerate revenue opportunities. The acquisition of AppDynamics also supports Cisco's strategic transition toward software-centric solutions that deliver predictable recurring revenue'.
