Gartner's Research Revenue Climbs after CEB Buy

August 8 2017

US research and advisory company Gartner has reported a 34% rise in second quarter Research division revenue (33% at constant currencies), to $613.7m. The result follows the acquisition of talent management insights firm CEB.

Gene HallThe CEB buy was completed in April, and Gartner's consolidated operating results for the three and six months ended June 30th, 2017 include the results of CEB beginning on the acquisition date. Through the CEB deal, Gartner is now reporting four business segments, which it says reflects its enlarged scale and breadth of advisory services. The Research division now includes the previous Gartner Research segment, as well as CEB's core subscription-based best practice and decision support research activities. It also includes Gartner's Strategic Advisory Services business, which was previously included in the Consulting segment.

Consulting revenue for Q2 of 2017 was up 6% (8% at constant currency) to $91.7m; while Events revenue rose 37% (either basis) to $91.2m. For the group as a whole, second quarter 2017 revenue was $843.7m, an increase of $233.7m or 38% (40% at constant currency). Adjusted revenue was $935.3m in Q2 2017; net loss was $92.3m; and Adjusted EBITDA was $185.0m.

CEO Gene Hall (pictured) commented: 'Gartner delivered another quarter of double-digit growth in the second quarter of 2017. The integration of Gartner and CEB is going extraordinarily well and gives us a quantum leap in capability. In our first 120 days, we've integrated our organizations, launched new products, introduced new commercial terms, and accelerated sales force hiring. And we're not slowing down. Our outlook for long term growth remains incredibly strong'.
