Merkle Promotes for EMEA Agency Lead Role

January 25 2018

Data-driven performance marketing agency Merkle continues to build its senior team in Europe, with the promotion of Thomas Byrne to lead EMEA agency operations.

Thomas ByrneByrne will oversee the Dentsu Aegis subsidiary's ambitious growth plans for its agency offering in the region, taking charge of its strategic direction, market proposition and key partnerships. Merkle EMEA now has more than 1,300 employees, with 12 offices across five countries. In part, this has been achieved through the acquisitions of Divisadero in Spain, Oogst in the Netherlands as part of its Oxyma acquisition, and b2b digital agency DWA, with offices in Munich and London.

Joining the EMEA Executive Leadership Team, Byrne will be responsible for building strong organic growth and growing the agency business across Spain, the Netherlands, Dubai, Germany and the UK - driven by data and insight, this includes paid search, programmatic display, social media, customer experience, advanced analytics and SEO.

Byrne was previously the firm's VP Growth and Partnerships, leading the growth of London-based performance marketing agency Periscopix, which he joined in 2009 when it had twenty staff - this had grown to 120 by the time it was acquired by Merkle in 2015, and has more than doubled since.

Michael Komasinski, President of Merkle EMEA, comments: 'Tom has played a significant role in building our market-leading performance media operations in the UK, demonstrating outstanding client leadership and developing our successful strategic media partnerships. This makes him well placed to lead our rapidly expanding agency business in EMEA into its next phase of growth'.

Merkle has around 5,200 employees and is headquartered in Columbia, Maryland, with 24 other offices in the US and 21 offices in Europe and APAC. The company has been building its senior team in Europe, and with further rapid expansion in mind recently hired Julia Crawley-Boevey as Head of Mergers and Acquisitions.
