Analysis from Hitwise shows that the official Live 8 web site, home of a mammoth online petition, was the sixth most-visited site in the UK on Saturday, outranked only by Google UK, eBay, Hotmail, MSN UK and Wanadoo.
As London's Hyde Park concert and Live 8 events aired around the globe, more than one in 100 web site visits by UK internet users was to www.live8live.com, according to Hitwise. The site was collecting 'signatures' for the 'Live 8 List, predicted to be the biggest petition in the history of the Internet.
More than 50% of traffic from the Live 8 site went on to www.makepovertyhistory.org, propelling the charity site to number 23. Two percent of downstream traffic from Live 8 went to 7 Digital (www.7digital.com), which provided the concert's official download. AOL, where users could view streaming broadcasts of the event, was the 5th most popular downstream site. Pink Floyd, who reunited for Live 8 after 24 years, were momentarily the most popular band online, as their site became the sixth most-visited downstream site.
