Burgeoning Blogs in UK

July 29 2005

According to the latest data from Hitwise, visits to blogs in the UK currently account for almost one in 200 visits to all web sites - representing a 130% increase from 2004.

The blogging sites are dominated by MSN and LiveJournal, but relative newcomer blog.myspace.com is rapidly gaining popularity with a 500% increase since it first appeared in Hitwise rankings last September.

Intermix (owner of MySpace) was bought last week by News Corp for $580 million, suggesting that blogs may finally be entering the mainstream.

A look at Hitwise demographics data highlights one of the major selling points of MySpace: more than 30% of visitors to MySpace are aged 18 to 24 - 21% higher than the average for blog sites - thanks to the site's emphasis on publicising upcoming bands and hosting new music releases.
