Launch of Business Intelligence Tools

June 6 2006

Business intelligence (BI) solutions provider Business Objects has added a number of targeted BI services for the communications industry. They focus on improving campaign effectiveness through 'deep personalization', faster introduction of new services and improved customer recruitment / cross-selling.

The company is working closely with several of its industry-leading partners to deliver the solutions, including BEA Systems, HP, KXEN, and Openwave Systems.

The new additions provide service providers with the ability to track and monitor processes using historic transactional data and near real-time information on operational processes like mobile phone activation, service and device personalization, and content provisioning. They include:

  • Operational Business Intelligence - working with HP - for tracking, understanding and management of the performance of mobile phone customer activation. A mobile operator can use the solution to monitor how well the various steps in the automated activation process are going and receive alerts if the process is failing or getting delayed in some steps.
  • Service Portfolio Intelligence - with BEA Systems - allows communications services providers to introduce or terminate new services quickly, efficiently, and cost effectively.
  • Personalization Using Customer Insight - with Openwave Systems - enables network operators to better analyze, understand, and capitalize on mobile device subscriber behavior, including the use of micro-segments for specific marketing campaigns
  • Predictive Analysis - with KXEN - provides communications managers with predictive information in operational BI dashboards - allowing managers to use historical and predictive analysis to improve planning and performance management. For example, an operator can look at historic data on customer churn to create models to predict the likelihood a customer will discontinue service and apply it to the current subscriber base to minimize churn risk.
Rani Goel, Director of Communications Industry Marketing, comments: 'Successful operators are not limiting themselves to intelligence about transactional data, but expanding it to operational process as well. BI is becoming pervasive throughout the organization and intelligence is also being shared with customers and partners. Along with our partners, we are bringing the next generation of BI solutions to the industry to help our customers improve competitive differentiation and operational efficiency.'
