Hitwise Releases First Widget

August 15 2007

Online competitive intelligence provider Hitwise has launched 'Hitwise Widget', which will supply online usage trends from its 'Hitwise To Go' RSS-based feed. The feed provides stats on online behaviour for the US, UK and Asia Pacific markets.

A widget is a downloadable application that provides easy access to frequently used functions or provides visual content such as news, weather or maps. The firm says that this is the first release in a series of widgets it has designed to make it easier for marketers, academics, the press and digital enthusiasts to access insights into online consumer usage from their desktops.

Hitwise To Go data includes topics such as the growth of newly launched web sites, recent search trends and the effect of web 2.0 technologies on specific industries and popular web sites among specific demographics and social groups.

'Releasing our data via desktop widgets makes it easy for digital enthusiasts to stay informed about key online trends as they happen,' commented the firm's Chief Marketing Officer Tessa Court. 'They also serve as a gateway to access a full archive of online statistics and other publicly available Hitwise data sources such as the Hitwise Analyst Blogs and our Data Center.'

Available on the Yahoo! Widget platform, the new product will run on both Mac and PC platforms, and soon be available via Google Gadget and Yourminis.

Hitwise To Go data is based on the behaviour patterns of more than 25 million Internet users. A subsidiary of Experian, since 1997 Hitwise has provided its 1,200 clients with daily insights on how their customers interact with a broad range of competitive websites, and how their competitors use different tactics to attract online customers.

The firm is online at www.hitwise.com.
