Polk Debuts Chinese Commercial Vehicle Data

March 28 2008

US-based automotive research agency RL Polk has released commercial vehicle registration data for China, split for the first time by locality and other variables.

Data has been compiled by Beijing Polk-CATARC, a joint venture between Polk and the Chinese Automotive Technology and Research Centre (CATARC), to provide geographic metrics by province, city, district and postcode. Clients include commercial truck and engine manufacturers and other customers in the commercial vehicle segment. Previously, only national level sales and production data was available.

Gary Meteer, Account Director for Polk's Commercial Vehicle Team, explains: 'With this new data, our customers can determine where vehicles are purchased and how they are being used, allowing them to leverage that information to make strategic business decisions in China.'

Polk's China registration data encompasses all types of commercial vehicles including buses, trucks and special vehicles (such as ambulances, police vehicles, cranes, fire engines).

Last October, the firm partnered with The Cobalt Group and Yahoo!, to announce results for the 2007 Dealer eBusiness Performance Study, billed as 'the largest research initiative in the automotive industry' (www.mrweb.com/drno/news7466.htm ). Based in Southfield, Michigan, with operations in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, the UK and the US, the company is online at www.polk.com .
