In Sydney, Australia, market research and media buying group WPP AUNZ has appointed Toby Hemming as its first Head of Communications and Marketing.
The group was formed in 2016, following WPP's
acquisition of a controlling stake in STW Communications. In 2018, it launched a
strategy consulting division; opened a panel management service called
Research Profile; and launched an
Analytics division. At the end of last year, WPP AUNZ agreed to
sell its entire stake in insight and analytics arm Kantar in Australia and New Zealand, as part of the
global sale of Kantar shares to Bain Capital.
Hemming (pictured) joins after eight years spent running his own agency Bold Media, and before that nearly two decades as a journalist for publications in the UK and Australia. During this time, he also served as Head of Communications for News Corp, and Corporate Communications Manager for BskyB.
In the new role, Hemming told online publication Mumbrella, he is tasked with helping roll out CEO
Jens Monsees' business transformation plan. 'The remit of the role is to look after marketing communications internally and externally for WPP. Jens has spoken to the market about the strategy he has in terms of transformation and [this role] is really very much working to support that vision and making sure that investors, clients, staff and the wider market are involved in the journey', Hemming explained.
