Teradata Acquires Think Big Analytics

Big data analytics platform Teradata has announced the acquisition of Think Big Analytics, a consulting and solutions firm focused on big data. Terms were not disclosed.

Think Big's team will become part of Teradata's big data consulting practice in the Americas, helping clients get the most from both Teradata products such as Aster and Unified Data Architecture; and from their big data investments in general. Think Big's main office will remain in Mountain View, California, taking the name Think Big, a Teradata Company.

Teredata says Think Big has developed expertise in implementing open source big data technologies such as Hadoop, NoSQL databases including HBase, Cassandra and MongoDB, and Storm, whie its consulting teams have in-depth knowledge of Hadoop distributions including Hortonworks, Cloudera and MapR. The firm's pre-built application components for various analytics applications will also benefit its new owner, while its Think Big Academy will provide 'hands-on expert training courses for customers'.

The buy is Teradata's third in the last two months: in late July it acquired the assets of technology firm Hadapt and those of information management products company Revelytix, both also for undisclosed sums. President and CEO Mike Koehler says all three deals will help achieve the goal of 'being the leader in enabling customers to derive maximum value from all their data'. He adds: 'Think Big's consulting expertise enhances Teradata's capability to advise customers on the best way to leverage diverse, open source big data technologies to grow their business.'

Think Big co-founder and CEO Ron Bodkin comments: 'Teradata and Think Big share an empowering vision to help customers leverage new, open source technologies to complement existing proven technologies, which drive analytic value from a rich diversity of data sets.' Co-founder and President Rick Farnell adds: 'Combining industry-leading Hadoop and data science expertise with the industry's leading platform for data analytics is a tremendous opportunity for our clients to innovate and realize game-changing value.'
