BrainJuicer Redefines 'Flat'

September 19 2014

Online research specialist BrainJuicer has reported a 'relatively flat' first half year, with a 4% rise in revenue to £11.2m (H1 2013: £10.8m). A decline in US and UK turnover was more than compensated by strong performances in Asia, continental Europe and Brazil.

John KearonOperating profits were up 18% to £1.5m from £1.3m in the prior year period.

While revenue grew 'modestly' during the six months ending 30th June 2014, the firm said overall revenue from its core quantitative services - such as Predictive Markets and its ComMotion ad testing technique - grew by a 'more substantial' 10% and made up 86% of BrainJuicer's revenue. In addition, sales of the company's 'Juicy' solutions were up from 66% of revenue in H1 2013 to 82% in H1 2014.

First half revenue declined in the firm's two biggest markets, the UK and the US, by 4% and 5% respectively. In continental Europe, revenue grew 6%, the China and Singapore region grew revenue 65%, and revenue from the Brazilian office increased by 24%.

In a statement, the firm said that while the headline figures painted a 'relatively flat' revenue picture over the first six months of the year, the performance of its core quantitative business reflected progress with large clients in particular. Growth would have been 'more significant' had it not been for a decline in its qualitative research and consultative service offer, the firm added.
