Populus Brings In Newly Named Tory Peer

Recently named Tory peer Lord Gilbert of Panteg is joining the Reputation and Strategy division of UK research agency Populus, as a Consultant helping to develop research-led campaigns for clients.

Lord Gilbert of PantegFounded in 2003 by former Tory party staff Michael Simmonds, Andrew Cooper (now known as Lord Cooper of Windrush) and Rick Nye, Populus is best known for its work in polling and political research, and was previously pollster to the Times newspaper.

Lord Gilbert (pictured), aka Stephen Gilbert, has previously held a number of senior campaigning roles in the Conservative Party, including Director of Campaigning at the 2015 general election, and was Political Secretary to the Prime Minister throughout the 2010 to 2015 coalition government. He has also served as Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party.

In his new role, Gilbert will work closely with Cooper to look at how research-based political campaigning techniques can help businesses communicate to key audiences. Commenting on the appointment, Nye, who is MD of Populus's Reputation and Strategy division, said: 'We are increasingly asked by clients to help them apply insights from our research and analytics to their communications. Stephen's expertise will be a huge asset to Populus'.
