Change at the Top for TiVo

November 18 2015

TiVo's Tom Rogers is to step down as Chief Executive at the end of January after ten years in the role. He will remain as non-executive Chairman of the Board while the DVR and audience measurement company 'transitions to a new leadership team'.

Tom RogersThe company's Board of Directors is searching for a replacement. 31st January is the end of the company's fiscal year, but TiVo said Rogers' departure was 'not related' to its forthcoming Q3 earnings announcement, due next week.

In a statement, Rogers (pictured) said: 'TiVo is a great company today - and I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of turning it around and building it from its DVR roots into the leader in providing next-generation TV in the United States and around the world'. He added: 'The Board and I agreed that this was an opportune time to seamlessly transition to a new leadership team'.

A pioneer of DVR technology, founded in 1997, TiVo has adapted to changes in media usage and makes its money from subscriptions sold with set-top boxes to consumers, from licensing its technology to cable TV firms and from audience insights - it bought media measurement and analytics firm TRA Inc. in 2012 and now runs it as TiVo Research and Analytics.

In July this year it brought in former Crossbeam Media President and erinMedia co-founder Frank Foster to lead the division, and last month it announced it would give away its TV ratings for free from the first quarter of 2016, citing an urge to 'celebrate' comScore's forthcoming acquisition of Rentrak.

The company is based in San Jose, CA, USA and the research division is online at www.tivoresearch.com .
