Audience measurement conference organiser asi has appointed former Kantar CMO John McCarthy as Executive Director. Richard Marks leaves the company after a decade as its Research Director.asi's International Radio & Audio Conference and International Television & Video Conference take place in November in Copenhagen. The firm began hosting conferences in 1991 and lists audience measurement and advertising effectiveness research as two of its five key areas of focus, alongside the migration of media to digital, the wider implications of digital commercial communications, and the regulatory framework for commercial comms within the European Union.
Marks (pictured below), who is retiring from the media research world to pursue a number of other interests including a book, art and music and 'a return to student life,' served as CEO of Kantar Media Audiences until 2012, overseeing the introduction and operation of the new BARB panel from 2010, and has been responsible for TV, online and radio audience research in 60 countries, including TV currencies in Spain, Russia and China. Earlier, at RSGB and TNS he helped create the ground-breaking ROAR and VIPer cross-media studies, set up a pan-BBC tracking study, introduced electronic diaries to the Daily Life study, and consulted on the first IPA Touchpoints.
As Kantar's marketing leader, McCarthy (pictured above) created the company's first dedicated communications function for audience measurement, established its annual global client event and was part of the original management team setting it on course for its presence in more than 60 markets today. He joined the group (via TNS) in 2003 as a Marketing Communications Executive.
He joins Chief Executive Mike Sainsbury and Katrina Maitland Smith, Chairman, on the leadership team. asi said in a statement: 'John's ability to navigate complex challenges as the industry continues to evolve and expand has earned him the trust and respect of clients, platforms and partners alike.'
