Chicago-based digital media publisher Spartz has raised $8m in Series A investment, which it will use to launch a model that uses predictive science to measure the viral potential of web sites and apps.Founded in 2009 by husband and wife team Emerson and Gaby Spartz, the company operates eighteen community sites through which users can share content - including trivia site OMG Facts, daily 'encouragement' site GivesMeHope, and Harry Potter fan site MuggleNet - through which it attracts fifteen million readers and 160 million page views a month. In addition, the firm has millions of followers on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
Alongside his role as CEO of Spartz, Emerson Spartz is one of the co-founders of social media analytics specialist SocialCrunch.
The new funding comes from a Garland Capital Group subsidiary and brings the company's total to $9.5m since launch.
