Nielsen to Cease Political Polling in Australia

June 3 2014

Nielsen has announced it will stop its political polling in Australia at the end of July, specifically the monthly Fairfax Nielsen Poll, which has been running for the past nineteen years.

Chris PercyNielsen and publishing group Fairfax began working on several federal elections in 1995, the results of which were first published in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. Allen Williams, Fairfax MD of Australian Publishing Media, says these two titles plus The Australian Financial Review are committed to continuing political polling after the July cut-off, and confirmed that Fairfax is looking at ways to capture 'an even greater diversity of views' across the Australian political landscape.

Nielsen Pacific MD Chris Percy (pictured) added: 'We have greatly valued the close relationship we have had with Fairfax on polling since the mid-1990s and this was not a decision taken lightly. It reflects the evolution of Nielsen's business towards a much greater focus on core strategic work directed at consumer purchasing and media consumption.'
