Census Bureau Replaces American FactFinder

March 31 2020

The US Census Bureau has retired its statistics and information search engine American FactFinder (AFF) after twenty years, and replaced it with a new platform called data.census.gov.

Census Bureau Replaces American FactFinderAFF provided access to data about the United States, Puerto Rico and the Island Areas, with data from several censuses and surveys including the decennial census, the American Community Survey, the American Housing Survey and the Economic Census. The new data.census.gov service makes data available from one centralized location.

To help ensure a smooth transition to the new platform, the Census Bureau will hold multiple webinars and training events. These will cover topics such as how to visualize data for your area; how to present the most popular statistics for your area through data visualization profiles; and how to customize and download tables using the site.

The Bureau says data.census.gov represents a 'new chapter', allowing for a more rapid response to customers. KaNin Reese, who joined the Census Bureau in 2005 as a survey statistician and now serves as Chief of the Dissemination Outreach Branch, comments: 'We developed this platform as part of our commitment to streamlining our customers' experience in finding, analyzing and using Census Bureau data. By making data available from one centralized place, data users will spend less time searching for data and more time using it'.
