In the US, data quality monitoring solution provider Toro Data Labs has raised $4m in a seed round of funding, which it will use to accelerate product development and bring the product to a larger audience.Toro, which was built by former Uber employees Kyle Kirwan and Egor Gryaznov, offers purpose-built tools - such as dashboards, AB testing, and data catalogs - to help automate data monitoring work. Users of the platform can look for anomalies within specific slices of data¸ providing a way to see whether data is clean, and receiving alerts when it isn't.
The seed funding round has been co-led by Costanoa Ventures and Point72 Ventures, with other backers including Jai Ranganathan, formerly Head of Data at Uber; and Yu Guo, Head of Machine Learning Platform for Uber's self-driving arm. Casey Aylward, VP at Costanoa Ventures, comments: 'Despite its importance, data quality has remained a challenge for many enterprise companies. Kyle and Egor's deep experience building several of Uber's internal data tools makes them uniquely qualified to build the best solution'.
