Ipsos Returns to Strong Growth

October 26 2023

Ipsos has reported third quarter revenue of EUR 588m, representing organic growth of 4.3% and restoring year-to-date organic growth after shrinkage in the first half. All the group's global regions shared in the Q3 growth, with EMEA leading the way.

Ipsos growing fast againGroup revenue fell by 2.8% in Q1 and was fairly flat (+0.5%) in Q2, but in the last three months strong growth returned despite what Ipsos describes as 'headwinds on major tech clients and a weak economic recovery in China'.

EMEA growth was mostly driven by strong results in continental Europe. Ipsos says Q3 is the first to be unaffected by the ending of Covid monitoring contracts. In the Americas, strong organic growth of 8% in Latin America was offset by slower movement in the northern continent (just under 2%). In the US, tech client problems 'weighed on activity' in the summer, but the firm says signs are positive both due to new opportunities relating to generative AI and in traditional research areas. In Asia Pacific, double digit growth in India and SE Asia countered a faltering recovery in China to produce overall organic growth of 3.1%.

The group's Doctors and Patients service line did well, and Citizens fairly well, with the post-Covid dip no longer a factor in either case, while the Consumer service line grew an impressive 8.3% (organic). Only Customers and Employees lost ground, with major tech client challenges cited again.

Ipsos says the 'clear acceleration' seen here will continue and intensify in Q4, and is confirming its organic growth target of between 3 and 4.
